I feel Slovenia – canyoning, rafting, zipline, hiking, food and wine

I feel sLOVEnia!

I’m starting this journey with sentence: “I’m going back to this beautiful country as soon as possible!” If you think Slovenia is just Ljubljana, you are fooling yourself! Slovenia are beautiful colored rivers, mountains, greenery as far as you can see, vast fields, vineyards, active adrenaline tourism, dear people, delicious food, fine wines I can go on forever like this… 🙂

If you want to challenge yourself, Slovenia must be on your bucket list. So close and so different from anything you’ve seen.

I still can’t imagine everything what I’ve been doing during our stay. I’ve never been more proud of myself! 🙂

Places you need to visit

Šebrelje VIllage

The first point on this “crazy” journey was the village of Šebrelje, a rural economy Polak where we had the opportunity to taste delicacies of this region.

Archeological Park Divje Babe

It was just warming up for the first in a row hiking trail, to Archaeological Park Divje Babe, which lies in the area of the Idrija and Cerkno hills, is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Early Stone Age in the world. In a steep and rocky slope, which descends from the Šebrelje plateau into the valley of the Idrijca river, a cave lies hidden.

The famous discovery happened in 1995, when the world’s oldest musical instrument was discovered in the Mousterian layer. This unusual musical instrument, neither a flute nor a whistle, was cemented near the remains of a 50,000 – 60,000 years old Neanderthal fire pit, made from the thigh bone of a young cave bear into which the Neanderthal drilled three holes and made a sharpened rim for the mouthpiece using tools made of bone and stone.

Alpska perla – Cerkno Ski resort

After this unforgettable experience, we were already hungry and headed for the Cerkno ski center, where we enjoyed in an alpine cuisine at the Alpska perla restaurant at 1300m above sea level. Is there anything better than sitting on the terrace of the Alpine restaurant, enjoying the sun and the view of Triglav and still having a nice traditional meal in a cozy company?

Besides, if you want to escape the urban hustle for a few days and enjoy nature and hiking, Alpska Perla offers accommodation in 6 modernly equipped apartments with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. If you want an active holiday, the ski center offers the Bike and Fun park services, which offers active activities for fun, outdoor activities and outdoor activities.

Franja Partisan Hospital

Something you have to visit when you are in this area, is a secret partisan hospital Franja at the time of the 2nd century War. Today, it represents a cultural monument of national significance and is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List and marked by a European heritage legacy. There is 15 wooden barracks, and was among the best equipped secret partisan hospitals. Beside the operating room, among other things, there’s a X-ray room and a small power plant.

Hotel Cerkno

The day came to an end, so it was time to go to our first sleepover place, Hotel Cerkno, located right in the center of town. A nice hotel is the perfect choice for those who want a quiet holiday in nature, an active holiday or simply want to relax and enjoy the thermal baths.

Places around Julian Alps

Early in the morning we headed for Bohinj, 20 km long and 5 km wide basin in the Julian Alps, in the Upper Carniola region of northwestern Slovenia.

For everyone from pleasure-seeking loners to eternal dreamers. The murmur of the brooks, rivers and waterfalls, the soft tinkling of cow bells, lazing on a carpet of alpine flowers, the smell of the forest, an owl’s hoot…

This is a Nirvana for all who love unspoilt nature! 🙂

We immediately started active! 😉

You have to try canyoning around the Bohinj area

We changed into neoprene suits and with our instructor from Sport4Fun Bohinj team started the adventure of our lives! 🙂

For the first time in my life I tried canyoning and I was thrilled! Through canyoning I experienced the adrenaline in the full sense of the word, descended down a natural sled, by waterfalls, stretched through a narrow rock clan, jumping into crystal clear pools, hanging on a rock. Bear Grylls, who?! ☺ I literally moved my own limits. Do not think I wasn’t afraid, ooo I was, but it was that positive fear that pushes you further, stronger, higher! You always have experienced instructors with you who take you through the most hidden places and take care of your safety. Definitely TRY THIS!!! 😉

Bohinjska Bistrica

Pension Resje Restaurant

After 3 hours of pure adrenaline adventure, we had a lunch at the best restaurant in this area, Pension Resje Restaurant, nearby Bohinjska Bistrica, where the hosts welcomed us with traditional courses. I’ll just say, “What a food!!” Make sure you come here and try these delicacies.

Vogel – the most beautiful view over Triglav

It was time to climb up to the 1922m high mountain Vogel, part of southern Julian Alps and Triglav National Park. Everywhere you turn, you feel like you’ve come to the “wallpaper”! 🙂

There is a cable car from Lake Bohinj to a height of 1537 m. Vogel Ski Resort is one of the biggest of its kind in Slovenia.

Eco Hotel Bohinj

After this busy day, the only thing we could do is relax in the wonderful Eco Hotel Bohinj, where after a fine dinner we enjoyed in hotel wellness, the saunas and the pool overlooking the surrounding mountains.

Soča Valley

The next day we had another crazy day in front of us filled with adrenaline!!! After breakfast we went to the well-known Soča River, with the train that drives only during the summer months, from Bohinjska Bistrica to the Most on Soča.

The River Soča is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. Its water flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way it has carved surprising canyons and pools. The river and its tributaries excite the lovers of natural beauty and seekers of adventurous water sports , such as wildwater kayaking, rafting, canyoning etc.

Rafting on beautiful emerald-green river Soča

Another one in a series of unforgettable experiences! With the Maya rafting team, we started off from Boka, Slovenia’s biggest slope. At the very beginning Soča was very calm. After a couple of minutes river became wild, full of weeds, fast, around us all the rocks, the raft struck heavily in the waves, we paddle like crazy, the adrenaline grew every second! But we managed to get to the point when the river became calm again and of course we had to swim in this beautiful river, temp. just 11C! 🙂

Triglav National Park

The Triglav National Park is the only Slovenian national park. The park was named after Triglav, the highest mountain in the heart of the park, which is also the highest summit in Slovenia (2864 m). Triglav (»three-headed«) owes its name to its characteristic shape as seen from the south-east side or to the highest Slavic deity who was supposed to have its throne on the top of the mountain.

OMG what a nature!

Bovec – adventure capital of Slovenia

The biggest zipline in Slovenia

After lunch, we challenged ourselves on the biggest Zipline in Slovenia in Bovec, with Aktivni Planet team! 🙂 This is the craziest thing I’ve ever done in my life!!! 1300m above sea level, 3200m pure adrenaline, 60km/h, 5 wires! I cannot describe the feelings I felt at the start. Fear, excitement, nervousness, happiness fight with yourself! I was first at the start, the instructor hooked me on the cable and just said, “Go!” And that was it! I was all green, but the fear went to the positive excitement of flying like a bird! 🙂 While sliding you are enjoying in the beautiful nature surrounding you, your head is empty and the only thing you feel is freedom.

This is something I recommend everyone to try!!! You will not regret, and afterwards you will be so proud of yourself, because as you try something like this, you are not even aware of what you are capable of.

What an adrenaline!!! ☺ After I came to the finish line, I wanted to do it again! And don’t worry, it’s safe! 😉

Restaurant “Letni vrt”

What a day! And it’s not over yet. 🙂 Something like this we could only celebrate with a good dinner and wine at the Restaurant Letni vrt in the center of Bovec. Highly recommend!!!

Eco Camp Adrenalinček

This time we wanted to experience camping, so we spent the night under the stars, in the beautiful Eco camp Adrenalinček, the first self-sustainable eco adventurous center in Europe on 17.000 m2 of land at Soca river – Slovenia, located only 4 km from adventure capital of Slovenia – Bovec. Environmentally friendly, sustainable holidays for all generations.

The resort has its own water source, solar power plant, biological wastewater treatment plant & hot water vacuum solar collectors. All facilities are made from recycled or locally grown wood.

It’s one of a kind eco/adventure resort in Europe!

Gorizia Hills

The last day of this adventure filled with adrenaline, we spent in the mountains of Gorizia, the mountain microregion in western Slovenia and northeastern Italy.

With E-bikes we’ve biked through beautiful landscapes, vast vineyards, with occasional wine tasting stops in local wineries.

Villa Vilpože

We have finished this unforgettable journey with lunch in Villa Vilpože, magical place from owner and chef Tomaž Kavcic.

At the end, I can only say, “What a journey !!” If you want to move your own boundaries, experiencing an active vacation, meeting wonderful people, enjoying the amazing nature, having a great food and wines, visit Slovenia and have a time of your life! 🙂

And remember: To travel is to live! 🙂
