Ski Resorts in Slovenia – hit destination this season
Slovenia is definitely a hit destination this season. Firstly, the nature is beyond beautiful, it’s like you’re in a winter wonderland, and secondly, Slovenian ski resorts with great slopes and winter offer can compete with any other world ski resorts.
This year I had the opportunity to visit Krvavec, Maribor Pohorje, Rogla, Kranjska Gora / Planica, Vogel and Kanin.
Krvavec Ski Resort
Slovenia’s Best Ski Resort
The Krvavec Ski Resort is the second-largest Slovenian ski resort. The nearest city is Kranj and it is 25 km from Ljubljana. The resort is located 10 km from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport and it is the nearest ski resort to an international airport in Europe. It has a total 30 km of ski slopes.
Krvavec offers a wide range of opportunities and events for skiers, from top-class trails, professional and friendly instructors, excellent staff. On the other hand, it offers various activities for those who want to spend their leisure time actively, but without skiing. They can experience skiing in a slightly different way, riding a “ski bike”, and experience a real adrenaline drive.
The largest Ski Resort in Slovenia and the longest night skiing on the slopes
Maribor Pohorje Ski Resort is the largest ski resort in Slovenia, located just south of Maribor, in the mountain range of Maribor Pohorje in Lower Styria. The resort consists of three sections: lower section “Snow Stadium,” middle section “Bolfenk” and an upper section called “Areh”. The resort as a whole offers 42 km of north-facing ski slopes, 27 km of cross-country skiing, and 10 km of night skiing. It is best known for its “Golden Fox” competition, women’s World Cup races in giant slalom and slalom, held since 1964.
It’s suitable for skiers, but also for the beginners.
Here you can also enjoy in the longest night skiing on the slopes up to 7 km. If you don’t have your own gear, you can easily rent it here.
Where to stay around Maribor
Just a minute away from the slopes
If you want to be just a minute away from the slopes, there is an exclusive four-star Habakuk hotel, situated in a beautiful natural environment, directly on a forested mountain plateau at the thermal spa Maribor. Or if you are more a city person, you can stay in the historical part of the city of Maribor, in Maribor Hotel. 13 high quality apartments with a touch and hospitality of a boutique hotel are situated in an early 18th century building full with historic delights on one hand and modern forward thinking architecture on the other. In this hotel in Maribor, stories from the past are interwoven with the modern lifestyle.
It’s perfect for a bigger group of people.
Where to eat around Maribor
Where stories from the past are intertwined with modern culinary experiences
Being aware of the lack of traditional Styrian cuisine in the center of the city, Gostilna Maribor designed the culinary offer in a way that they present local cuisine to foreign visitors.
Here you can enjoy chef’s Gregor Jagr freshly baked bread, sausages, beef soup, buns and goulash, apple strudel and apricot dumplings and other delicacies that return the memory of the past, but equally flirting with contemporary culinary trends.
For all meat lovers
If you’re a truly “meat” person, in Steakhouse Rožmarin you can try dry aged beef, prepared on the Big Green Egg® with premium American oak and hickory charcoal. Damn! You can enjoy in some fine stuff here! 🙂
Wine lovers would be very pleased here 🙂
La Pizzeria Grande Gusto
La Pizzeria is the place that excites, soothes and promises adventure.
Flour, from which they make dough that needs a whole day and night for leavening, tomatoes without water, selected mozzarella with just enough fat, fresh spices …
Marche Movenpick Maribor
Pamper yourself while on the road
Very popular restaurant, Marche Movenpick Maribor, at the Maribor rest stop on the A1 between Ljubljana and Gradec. Their signature dishes: innovative pizzas, creative salads, and grilled delicacies. All of their dishes are made using only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. I highly recommend this place!
Treat yourself and taste excellent wines
The old Wine House “Stara trta”
World’s oldest wine
In the heart of the old city centre on Lent, the oldest wine in the world still grows in front of the Old Wine House “Stara trta”. The confirmed age of this “Žametovka” or “Modra Kavčina” wine is over 400 years, which won it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest noble wine in the world still bearing grapes. The Old wine is a symbol of the rich wine culture of Maribor, Styria, and all of Slovenia.
Wine bar Maribor
The rich flavours of superior quality wines and local culinary specialties
In the centre of Maribor, you can enjoy the rich flavours of superior quality wines and local culinary specialties, in wine bar Maribor.

On the left bank of the river Drava, right next to the river, from the 16th century stands a mighty Renaissance fortress of an unusual, pentagonal form that once defended the walls of the Styrian capital.
